  Unfortunately my pleasant New Year's Eve was cut short due to management refusing to serve my friend without reason. We spent all evening quietly sitting outside under the heaters (one good thing about this pub) then went to the bar to order an ale. My friend was then refused service. When we politely asked why, none of the staff, including management, could give any reason and we left quite deflated, our New Year's Eve left it tatters. Unfortunately this establishment brings great shame to the brilliant Kentish brewery Shepherd Neame.

  It's a nice building with an OK (if somewhat expensive) selection of beers, that is where the positives end. The establishment is very elitist and the staff (especially management) are rude and unwelcoming. A lady with dyed red hair in particular, seemed to make it her personal challenge to make our visit there an unpleasant experience.
  
  I have visited this "pub" on several occasions and never felt comfortable, though my most recent visit was downright unpleasant - the Chequers in Sevenoaks is hands down a nicer pub (good beer and friendly, down to earth staff), and even Wetherspoons is a far better bet than the Black Boy - don't waste your time.
